New charges for access to the "last mile" approved

On 31.03.2009, the Federal Network Agency approved new charges for access to the local loop of Deutsche Telekom AG (DT AG), the so-called last mile. Also on 31.03.2009, the Federal Network Agency approved new charges for access to the last mile for the German mobile network operators T-Mobile Deutschland GmbH, Vodafone D2 GmbH, E-Plus Mobilfunk GmbH & Co. KG and Telefónica O2 (Germany) GmbH & Co. OHG the decisions on the new charges for call termination in their respective mobile networks, the so-called mobile termination. These decisions apply from 1 April 2009.

In future, competitors will have to pay 10.20 euros per month to DT AG for leasing the local loop - previously it was 10.50 euros. DT AG had applied for an increase to 12.90 euros in January. The monthly rental fee primarily covers the necessary investments, for example for the material and the laying of the "last mile".

As a result of the decisions announced today to the four mobile operators, termination charges from 1 April 2009 to the mobile networks will be 6.59 ct/min. for the two D networks and 7.14 ct/min. for the E networks.

The new charges are thus a good 16 per cent lower for T-Mobile and Vodafone D2, and almost 19 per cent lower for E-Plus and O2 than the previous charges of 7.92 ct/min and 8.80 ct/min respectively.

The monthly transfer fees for access to the local loop are valid for a period of two years until 31 March 2011, the approval of the mobile termination fees has been limited until 30 November 2010.
